This one's pretty scary. Our government representatives are trying to attach a National ID card law onto an Iraq spending bill. It's already passed the house of representatives, it's moving on to the Senate and there's little doubt the idiot in the White House will pass this law, since he's behind it.

The problem? This one's going to have all your pertinent personal information, on an rfid transmittable card. This means anyone can pick up your info if they've got the right reader and access to your card. It means you'll be tracked wherever you go, whatever you buy, whatever you do - by law. This is about as distopian/totalitarian as it gets. What's the card nominally being introduced for? To combat terrorism. If you think for one second this ID card will do anything to limit terrorism, you need to get educated.

This is bad news, very bad news. This sort of thing needs a great amount of public disclosure and discussion - but junior wants to pull a fast one on us all and have the dept. of homeland security gain more unchecked power and resources (that's right it will cost you more tax dollars to support this thing). We've never needed a national id card before, we certainly don't need one now.

I urge you people to do something about it, get off your asses and write your Senators telling them that you don't want this thing snuck through the back door like this. Honestly folks, this is the kind of thing we used to belittle the Soviet Union for.....

The kids who did all the damage at Columbine had created a Doom .wad file of the school. They were hoping to use it to practice running around shooting their classmates. I was able to find it and download it before AOL took down their websites the day of the attack. One website of theirs had nothing but "Your momma" jokes. The .wad file wasn't that good but I bet if they had Flash back then, they would have created something like this kid.

A very brief but interesting article about animals in a wildlife park surviving the tsunami. Now if animals have this sixth sense, why not humans? I use to live on the coast in an earthquake rich environment. Every time I heard of a quake I checked the news to see if I had to head inland. Blue Lake is where I was headed. Perhaps it is time for a global tsunami warning system like the US has. By the way, the US did not put one in until 12 people were killed in Crescent City in 1964. Nothing motivates like trajedy unfortunately.

Cats in the News!

Yes, I am a cat person. Not because I dislike dogs, just never had one. But I found these two news stories this week in the news and I thought I would share them with you.

The first is about Nemo the swimming cat that was found 3 miles off the coast in the Gulf of Mexico. Reminds me of the Aristocats. Just not in France. Or with a butler. Or singing cats... nevermind

The second is about PFC Hammer a cat adopted by a unit in Iraq that recently came home with the other troops. Does that mean we are now kidnapping Iraqi cats? Where is Michael Moore when you need him.

Wired's recent article regarding Blogs and people getting burned out on them hit home today. Of course, I don't have the problem of people leaving too many comments. Heck! Has anyone even read it? Oh well, good practice for September.

Live Action Pac-Man?

My mom dropped off a section of the New York Times the other day (okay, three weeks ago) and I finally sat down and looked through it to see why she felt it was so important to clutter up my tiny little house. Low and behold (Sunday, May 9, 2004 NYT Sunday Styles, Section 9, Page 1) there is an article about college students using cell phones and maps of Manhattan to play a live action version of Pac-Man. I would want to be Blinky :-)

2880 collision

I had breakfast with a JPL Deep Space Engineer and he mentioned that an asteroid is on a possible collision course with the Earth on St. Patrick's Day in the year 2880. Of course we have plenty of time. I quickly did some research and low and behold here it is as reported by ABC news

Just got back from watching 4th of July fireworks and turned on the TV. We Were Soldiers is on again. Always watch this film when I can. Found the Landing Zone X-Ray website. Some great links from it to get more of the story of the Ia Drang Valley.

Well, I just signed up for this thing and thought I might try it out. Tonight was fun. Me, Heather, and the kids travelled on the Gold Line to Phillipes in downtown LA with my neighbors. Lots of fun and good food. Curran started getting a little crazy with the Chinatown snappers. He kept throwing them up in hte air instead of down ont the ground.
